POS Data

POS stands for “point of sale” and describes the type of information captured during a transaction at the register. When a product is scanned at the checkout, five pieces of information are gathered and sent to SPINS: UPC, description, dollars, units, and the location of the transaction. It is from these five bits of information that all of our other measures are derived for SPINS’ “RMS” or Retail Measurement Services data.
