What is it?
POS stands for “point of sale” and describes the type of information captured during a transaction at the register. When a product is scanned at the checkout, five pieces of information are gathered and sent to SPINS: UPC, description, dollars, units, and the location of the transaction. It is from these five bits of information that all of our other measures are derived for SPINS’ “RMS” or Retail Measurement Services data.
Why is it important?
POS data allows brands and retailers to track sales performance and make informed pricing, promotion, product, and placement decisions.
What are some examples?
POS data is used in multiple SPINS products, like AttLab, Satori, PowerTabs, and TriLens.
