SPINS AND SOYATECH PARTNER TO DEVELOP REPORT ON SOYFOODS: THE U.S. MARKET 2009

Study Examines State of the Industry and Explores How the
U.S. Soyfood Market Will Continue to Develop

SCHAUMBURG, IL March 12, 2009 – The market for soyfoods in the US has evolved over the years, graduating from having an exclusive existence in small natural food stores to becoming a growing phenomenon throughout multiple distribution channels. Consumer awareness of the health benefits associated with soy and the introduction of new products have had a major impact on the repositioning of soyfoods in the marketplace. During the late 1990s and in the first few years of this decade, the soyfoods industry experienced tremendous growth. However over the last four years, sales in this sector have slowed and year-over growth rates have struggled to reach 2%.

Industry veterans SPINS, Inc. and Soyatech, LLC have partnered to examine the soyfood sales and industry trends of 2008 and will release the results of the their study in an upcoming report, Soyfoods: The U.S. Market 2009. Anticipated to be released in April, the 2009 study is the eighth report of its kind and provides detailed information on the U.S. market by category, sub-category, brand and distribution channel.

The report will cover such topics as:

  • What are the opportunities in this healthy food sector?
  • Who are major players impacting the marketplace and driving growth?
  • Has the soyfoods industry reached the limits of its growth and what developments can be expected in the future?

"Early indications from market data suggest that the growth in consumption of soymilk, meat alternatives and snack bars has led to the soyfoods category surpassing the $4 billion sales level for the first time,” said Philippe de Lapérouse, Managing Director of the Global Food and Agribusiness Practice for Soyatech and HighQuest Partners, its parent company. “We anticipate that opportunities for increased innovation will enable the industry to continue growing."
