Natural Products Associate

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the Natural Products industry (e.g.: health food stores, distributors, manufacturers and other industry groups), a broad and deep knowledge of brands and products that drive the industry, a passion for health and wellness and a desire to work in an exciting start-up type of work environment.

Position Description

Researching of product information:
Acquring and auditing product information on natural products utilizing manaufacturers, SPINS partners, the Internet, etc.

  • Researching and retrieving information on brands and specific products.
  • Contacting manufacturers for additional information when needed.
  • Researching attributes of products (such as whether or not a product is organic, fair-trade certified, etc)
  • Updating and maintaining our product "library" (database):
  • Maintaining/updating all product information in our database (Microsoft Access).
  • Ad-hoc Projects:
  • Custom coding work outside our standard coding framework, assigned from the Director, often involving researching full ranges of products such as Frozen Desserts (2,000 + UPCs) for a new attribute, etc.
  • Making necessary enhancement /changes and communicating any and all status to the Content Team and in some cases the SPIN Sales Team and Clients directly.
  • Additional tasks:
    Participation in occasional natural products store tours (reviewing merchandising , new products launches, etc).

  • Contributions to new Content initiatives that draw on your industry expertise and further SPINS' ability to capture emerging trends in our industry Standard heirarchy.
  • Participation/commentary for reports produced by SPINS Client Services team. These reports range from Business Overviews to Strategic Expansion and the Content team contributions are often in fact checking, directional support (competing brands and manufacturer background), etc.
  • Reporting to and providing regular status reports on assigned tasks/projects and other issues relevant to your responsibilities to Director of Content Services.
  • Requirements/Qualifications
  • Full-time employment Monday through Friday in our Schaumburg, IL.
  • High level of proficiency and comfort with natural and organic companies.
  • High degree of proficient in using Windowa and Microsoft Professional Office tool set (Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel and Access is a big plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, meeting specified deadlines and team standards.

    Nash Finch On-Site Business Consultant

    We are currently seeking an Nash Finch on-site Business Consultant in Minneapolis, MN . This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, an analytical and technical aptitude and a willingness to help build and shape the development of SPINS, Inc. products and services.

    Position Description

    Leadership
    Provide thorough leadership and value-added support to client's business by utilizing SPINS products and services.

    • Manage selected analysis and consulting activities at client to meet sales and profit targets.
    • Utilize full suite of SPINS and technology partner products/services to meet the business needs of client.
    • Provide subject matter expertise in support of strategic client business issues (e.g. Category Management, Assortment Management and Shelf Management).
    • Apply SPINS analytic products and services to business issues.
    • Act as a natural products industry consultant and thought leader to the client’s management team while also building strong relationships and demonstrating measurable ROI for SPINS products and services
    • Manage (as applicable) associate performance and training plans to ensure team members ability to deliver against the client plans. Act as a coach and mentor, conducting performance reviews and providing adequate feedback.
    • Facilitate and monitor development of SPINS contracts with client. Identify additional selling opportunities within assigned area of responsibility to include other SPINS products/services

    Business Insight
    Provide valuable insight/support to the client in their strategic initiatives as defined by mutual objective setting with the client.

    • Provide client support with routine and custom category analytics and provide fact-based recommendations.
    • Make analytical presentations to client groups and members and also conduct training with new client associates regarding SPINS products and services.
    • Manage and oversee successful execution of database management functions including refreshes, restatements, data inquiries and routine/repetitive reporting.
    • Complete objective setting plans for areas of responsibility and attend client planning meetings.
    • Identify additional selling opportunities within assigned area of responsibility to include other SPINS products/services.
    • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with respective client partners by providing objective, fact-based, business insight and support in the development of category business plans and routine category management activities.
    • Review SPINS and Natural Channel industry studies with client to insure they are aware of industry trends, initiatives, and innovation.

    Requirements/Qualifications
    A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with four or more years' experience with a natural products distributor, broker, retailer or manufacturer, or with an information supplier/market research firm serving the CPG/grocery industry .
    • Advanced user level in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
    • Experience in private label business preferred
    • Proficient in Category management and Syndicated Data (scanner and panel) analysis using SPINS, ACNielsen, IRI or similar data
    • Strong analytical skills, interpreting data, market research ability
    • Demonstrated experience/ability to apply analytic products to CPG business issues within both branded and private label environments.
    • Proven track record in achieving measurable business results.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and write proposals and make small to medium group presentations.
    • Ability to build strong relationships within all levels of an organization
    • Ability to train and educate others with outstanding writing and presentation skills
